One of the biggest myths about acne is that it is caused by poor hygiene. This is simply not true. Washing your face vigorously several times a day is not good for your face. In fact it will just make the acne worse and redder. Just wash your face normally twice a day with soap, then pat it dry.
Others tend to think that a poor diet will cause acne. This is also not true. Although eating greasy fatty foods are not good for your health, it does not mean it will cause acne.
Some tend to think that acne is just a cosmetic disease, while this is true, having acne will affect the way people look at you and treat you, which leads to a medical condition named depression.
Some tend to think acne cannot be cleared up. This is also not true. If you have tried all the over the counter acne medicines and nothing has worked, then it is time to consider seeking a doctor for your acne.
Many people believe that acne can be caused by stress. This is also a myth. If you are taking a prescription, sometimes the side affects will include acne. If this is a problem then speak to your doctor about changing medications.
Popping your acne is another myth that some tend to think will help. If you do this, all you are accomplishing is irritating the area and possibly scarring it for life. This can also cause them to get more red and sore.
Tanning is believed to help acne, and this is another myth that is not true.
If you are one who has problems with acne, take care of your skin as best you can, and if needed seek a doctor’s advice.
